Is school really necessary?

For so many students being back at school is simply exhausting. For me, its structure, planning, and control, all of whom I kind of love weirdly enough. I consider myself lucky to have had those 4 years in between High School and College/University. It has taught me so much about people and how things work in the world, and makes it easier for me to keep myself interested in the topics we cover in class, and to value the time spend here.

Student, and young people in general take things for granted all the time. Our family, our school grades, the knowledge we have access to, people around us. At first I was one of those, and I still am at times, because its human. I came out of college with a 2.4 grade average, which is NOT ok. Even though I did get in to a good University in a foreign country, it helped bringing down the scholarship received, which again brings on a domino effect of several different other things. So the phrase “one thing leads to another” does apply to everything. My grade average has increased. Not because it had to (I felt), but because I am dedicated to my major, and interested in what is said.

5 years ago I was opposed to taking a year off from school to work after High School. I felt that if you stopped, even for one second, started to work and earned your own living, you would stay stuck in that phase. It is hard for many to go back again to being a poor student after being able to do whatever you want, and I still do think/know that it is. Maybe this is a good way of separating the people who do not want to continue school and the ones who have the drive to, taking a year off?! This might sound harsh, but why waste resources and energy on people who do not really wanna be here (in school that is)?!

After High School I was done, and pretty sure I never wanted to sit on the school bench ever again. I was working with computers and computer applications, and felt pretty good about that. It took me 3 1/2 years to figure out that I was not done and what I actually wanted to do with my life, and I didn´t even spend time thinking about it, I was done. Somehow it just came to me, and I didn´t waste time to do my research as to how I could make it happen.

I do not regret for one second coming to CLU, I love it here, and learn a lot. But to answer the question in my subject field; No! School is not really necessary, but useful if that is what you want, and what makes you happy.

I am an advocate of doing things that makes you feel good, and gives you satisfaction. In order to make anyone else happy, YOU need to be happy.

Dear Sister

I started thinking the other day… YES, I do think people!… My sister is moving out from moms apartment for the first time in just a couple of hours, to the other side of the world, down-under, Aussie, or whatever you wanna call it down there. I guess it´s a family thing that started with our generation. I was the first to get outta there, Norway that is, immediately after I´d graduated high school, I went to The Netherlands. Our cousin was next, he went to Australia. So of course I come back again to Norway, and then I realized that The Netherlands wasn´t far enough away, so I packed and left again.. Now its my sisters turn. Its obviously the best way to do it when you wanna learn how to stand on your own feet, but what I can´t figure out is if we´re doing it because we can´t stand being that close to our family, or if its because we love and are so attached to them that we won´t be able to make it without crawling back if we are anywhere nearby.

So I wanna close up by saying that I am super proud of you sis for taking this step, and for getting all organized and stuff, considering I got the organization gene ;P I am sure you will do fine and learn tons of new stuff. Do NOT forget to wear sunscreen, and NEVER put down your drink when you´re out on the town. You remember what happened the last time

Documentary + Workout = Drive

I woke up today with the mindset of staying in, watching more movies and relaxing. Last night I was determined that I would wake up and hit the gym right away, but the comfort of my bed devoured my lust to get out. Thanks to a long phone conversation with one of my best friends Nathalie from The Netherlands, the drive got back, and with her suggestion I started watching a documentary called “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” while on the treadmill. Happy birthday btw Nathalie

As I myself am a psychology major, the documentary intrigued, frightened, irritated, but yet fascinated me. I would definitely recommend watching it if you are familiar with psychology from a psychiatrist´s point of view, if not, please do keep an open mind. It is an educating documentary, but very judgmental, and seen from only one perspective.

Anyways…. Thanks to this documentary I stayed on the treadmill for 60 minutes straight, 30 minutes on the elliptical, and another 30 minutes doing stretching and muscle exercises. Therefore, when going to the gym, bring your iphone, ipad, kindle, or whatever and watch something interesting. It´ll keep you going

Now I´ll get on with my movie-day and weekend with a good conscience!

So.. Trying to sort through the pictures that me and my friends took during our Holiday trip, but I think it might take a little while, so I wanted to share a picture with you from our evening at The Chippendales show at Rio in Vegas.

It was a fun show, and we were surprised to see that we´d gotten front seats. We must have been the last ones in, but our lucky streak had just begun. All of us were lucky enough to get a lap dance on our seats during the show, and my friend Karina even got pulled up on stage. Definitely a recommendation for a girls night out!

Happy 2012!

Happy new year to all of you!

I am looking forward to a new year and a fresh start, even though you can´t really consider it a fresh start.

The last semester I have been very busy with school and organizing of my upcoming semesters at CLU. Unfortunately my grades were not as I´d hoped they were, but I recognize I could have done more about them, so that´s for 2012´s grades.

When winter break started I was lucky enough that two of my best friends from Norway came to visit me from Norway, and I have not done and seen as much as I have the last two weeks during the whole year I have been in California, which is amazing. During their visit we went to Las Vegas by car, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Los Angeles, Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Calico the ghost town. I was sad to see them go, but I think the next 4 months are going to go by fast.

For now I will relax and focus on school and shooting, so I will try to updating my blog or at least what´s going on more frequently.

Break

As a result of my laziness the last week I have already on the 2nd week of school started to fall behind in homework. Basically because there usually is about 50 pages in my CRIM and 1 paper, about 20 pages for my abnormal PSYCH, another 10-25 pages in the other PSYCH, AND 10 Math assignments in total every week. And i assume it`ll just increase as the semester goes by… Soooo… If you didn´t get it I am already, ON MY 2ND WEEK, doing an all-nighter… Gotta looooove those

I guess this is my way of avoiding the homework and at the same time getting a small break, so I am gonna spend it wisely and not complain about school again like last semester

This weekend was well spent, party, party and what?!? Disneyland!!! Since my sister and her friend is in town we managed to drag along two of my close friends Erica and Adam, which was sooo much fun!
Woke up early of course and just walked around in both parks (Disneyland and California Adventure), from 8:30 AM – 10 PM. Was an exhausting and fun day. Erica was really psyched about the “World of Colors” show that started at 9PM in the CA park and started bawling as soon as it started. I thought I would do well, untill…. THE LION KING… Basically it´s a huge light show that is shown in the park, all the lights and rides are stopped during the show so you can see the projections and colors. All together it´s an amazing show that really puts your emotions in a spin. I don´t think I have seen anything as beautiful and packed of childhood memories.

“Summer Moved On”

So… The summer is almost gone.. For us Norwegians that is…

I don´t really have much to say, have been too caught up in work to be able to do much other then spending time with friends during the last couple of months. Doesn´t really matter, 3 days left till I go back to LA for the coming 9 months.
Already planned to bring some Christmas movies for me to watch Christmas eve even Kind of weird knowing that I wont be able to spend Christmas time at home with my family again.. Last time was when Jessie (my cat) decided to hold the “kitty delivery” till the 25th instead of the 16th as she should have, but ok.. I can just make the best of the situation.

So now I have been packing my whole room, throwing away some “trash”, sorting things.. Almost done, but I think I`ll do the rest in 2 days, I guess it`ll be easier
